The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) Amarillo hosted two guests from Beefcor, a fully integrated beef company in South Africa. Mr. Izak Kok and Mr. Ruben Couws toured the Amarillo lab to gain an understanding of the varied work and services the lab offers to our beef cattle clients in the Panhandle and surrounding area. Kok and Couws had a two day visit in the Panhandle hosted by Dr. J.P. Pollreisz of Zoetis, and in addition to TVMDL visited several feedyards in the area, Texas Cattle Feeders Association office, and Dr. Sam Ives at West Texas A&M University.
“Kok and Couws had many questions about the disease conditions seen in Texas beef cattle,” said Amarillo Resident Director R. Gayman Helman, DVM, PhD, MA. “They were especially interested in how TVMDL is equipped to deal with a foreign animal disease outbreak.”
TVMDL performs regulatory and as-needed diagnostic testing on many species, including bovine, canine, feline, equine, porcine and cervid samples. For more information on TVMDL’s testing services, visit tvmdl.tamu.edu.
